Frequently Asked Questions

Our Products

Where are Mainers mitts and gloves made?

Our offices and manufacturing facility are in Maine and have been since the early 80’s. Each pair of mitts or gloves, whether for NASA or for you to take out on an adventure is entirely cut and sewn in Trenton, ME - the last town you go through before you enter Acadia National Park. The sewing machines and dye-cut presses are operated by people who are very skilled at what they do and have spent considerable time building that skill. We are incredibly proud to be part of both Maine’s Manufacturing and Outdoor economies - each with their own strong tradition in our state.

How do I know I’m ordering the right size?

Before you place an order we strongly encourage you to review our Sizing page. After measuring your hand, use our sizing guide to find the perfect fit.

If you find yourself in between sizes, we recommend ordering the larger size if you want to prioritize maximum warmth or ordering the smaller size if you want to prioritize dexterity.

Can I wash my mitts or gloves?

Please refer to individual product pages for details on how to care for them.

What's the difference between the Mainers Mitt and Caribou Mitt?

Our Mainers Mitt is the best option for folks who are out in the extreme cold and want to stay warm. They are completely waterproof and can withstand extreme cold temperatures. These are great for long days skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling or even ice fishing.

Our Caribou Mitts are also extremely warm, and incorporate a cozy wool/pile lining next to skin. These are still a very comfortable, stylish and warm option for everyday winter activity use. They are not naturally waterproof, but can be made more water resistant by applying sno-seal to the leather exterior. There is a sample included in each Caribou Mitts order placed through our website.

How do I use Sno-seal?

Preheat clean dry gloves or mitts with a hair dryer, a sunny window or preheated and extinguished oven. Do not heat beyond comfortable handling temperature of 120F. Apply as much SNO-SEAL as the leather will absorb. The warm leather will melt the SNO-SEAL and draw it deep into the pores and fibers of the leather. Remove excess wax with a rag and buff with a brush.
